The Era of Memes

Memes. What is it about them that makes us so drawn to them? They're short and simple yet we as social media fanatics become obsessed with them. Having a bad day? There's a meme for that. Having the best day of your life? There's a meme for that too. I think the fact that anyone can make a meme is what really piques our interest in them. Personally, I have an app specifically for creating memes. If I accidentally take an unflattering picture of one of my friends, I make a meme of it. The infinite possibility of memes makes us even more compelled to them. I do not believe we will ever "run out" of memes. From "Bad Luck Brian" to "Evil Kermit" to "Grumpy Cat", there is such an array of memes that everybody can find at least one to relate to.

How do memes affect us? For one, they bring us together. When I find a new meme I like I immediately send it to my friends and family. Being able to relate to something so simple with other people creates a sense of connectedness. Even on social media you are able to connect with strangers in a way that hasn't been seen before.

Ultimately, memes are here to stay. I can't imagine a day that memes will no longer be relevant. They're so diverse and unique that they can never grow old.

Here are just a few of my favorite memes.
